Jonah Bacon is a YQA 550-Mile Musher from Fairbanks, Alaska. With his deep-rooted passion for dog sledding, Jonah has carved out a niche for himself in this thrilling sport. Working with Deke Naaktgeboren at Nautique Sky Kennel, Jonah gets to enjoy the solitude of the trails, travel through pristine wilderness, and work with the best dogs in the world!
Jonah’s journey into the world of dog mushing began through an amazing opportunity. It was an invitation from a local recreational musher that first piqued his interest, but it was volunteering at the Iditarod that truly ignited his passion. Under Deke’s mentorship, Jonah honed his skills and officially began his mushing journey at Nautique Sky Kennel. For the past four years, Jonah has been living his dream, training, and racing alongside an amazing team of dogs.
In 2025, Jonah Bacon is proudly sponsored by Ivory Jacks, Aurora Animal Clinic, and Permafrost Beards. Their support is invaluable as he prepares for his next big challenge: the Yukon Quest Alaska. For Jonah, this race is more than a competition; it’s an homage to the spirit and history of mushing. He is personally excited to train on the Yukon River, a testament to his adventurous spirit and respect for the mushing legacy.
Last year, Jonah earned the Red Lantern in the YQA 300-Mile Race, an accolade that speaks to his perseverance and tenacity.
