Photographers on the Yukon Quest Trail

It’s no easy task to get these great action shots of teams on the trail. Daylight is limited and temperatures are frigid. These talented photographers not only know how to capture the moment. They know how to dress for sub zero temps, and stay warm outside for hours on end. The know how to deal with camera equipment, in an environment where condensation and freezing are real hazards. And they do it all to capture images of teams traveling through vast wilderness areas of Alaska. And to document that special bond between musher and team. A partnership developed over years and miles that translates into the ability to travel the Yukon Quest Alaska trail.

Whitney McLaren – 2024 Head Photographer

Whitney McLaren has been involved with the Yukon Quest since 2014 and became an official member of the Visual Content team in 2016. Though McLaren has a journalistic approach to all things photography, sled dog races and pet portraits are some of her favorite things to capture. Following mushers through the beautiful landscape of Alaska and documenting the lifestyle of mushing is something she truly enjoys. You can find more of Whitney’s work at the button below!
