Based out of Two Rivers, Alaska, Joey Sabin is a dedicated musher and tour guide who has been running dogs for eight years. As the owner of VOA Racing, Joey has developed a deep bond with his dogs, a bond that is evident in his enthusiasm and dedication to the sport. His journey into dog mushing began with dog tours in Colorado, eventually leading him to the rugged trails of Alaska, where he established his own kennel.
Joey’s passion for sled dog racing is fueled by the joy of spending time with his best friends – his dogs – amidst the breathtaking landscapes of Alaska. “Being able to hang out with my best friends in beautiful country every day is what I love most about running dogs,” he shares, capturing the essence of his commitment to the sport.
Last year marked a significant milestone for Joey as he completed the Yukon Quest 300 with a remarkable team of dogs, all two years old or younger. Trained from puppies, these young athletes amazed Joey with their performance, embodying the hard work and dedication he poured into their training. Reflecting on this achievement, Joey says, “It was really cool feeling to see so much hard work pay off. We’re getting back on the Quest trail this year and going a bit further. I can’t wait to see what these three-year-olds are capable of this year.”
As he prepares for the 550-mile Yukon Quest Alaska in 2025, Joey is driven by the desire to have fun and challenge himself and his team. Supported by his sponsors, Ivory Jacks and Alaska Icefield Expeditions, along with his loving family, including his mom and dad, Joey is set to embark on this thrilling adventure. He also expresses his gratitude to his wonderful girlfriend for her endless support and help with the team.
Joey’s personal goal for the race is very simple: “We’re going to go out there and have some fun!” His infectious enthusiasm and unwavering dedication promise an exciting journey on the challenging trails of the Yukon Quest Alaska.
